VRSAR lies on the coast between Porec and the Limski Kanal Fjord. This region is distinguished by numerous shady bays and picturesque islets. The coastline and islets are formed of very old limestone layers. The west of Istria is the limestone plateau that little by little ascends from the open sea towards the hinterland of the peninsula.

To the north there is the highest mountain in Istria - Ucka (1,396m). The surroundings of the town of Vrsar are quite hilly. The red soil covering the limestone is the reason why the peninsula is known as the "Red Istria".

Two years were important for the growth of tourism on the Adriatic coast - 1957 and 1961 when the first modern naturist centre (FKK) was opened on the islet of Koversada. Today, Koversada is one of the largest nudist centres in Europe.

The archipelago of Vrsar, consisting of eighteen islets and being a perfect natural scenery, provides the ideal set for the creation of your own holiday and enjoyment.

In the Middle Ages, Vrsar was surrounded by walls and towers. Taking into account the urban part of the town, it may be said that the mediaeval Vrsar is similar to some other Istrian towns, for example St. Lovrec and Motovun. The most important historical monuments are the Renaissance and baroque Church of St. Anthony and the old Romanesque gate.
